Random thoughts about tonight’s debate:
Both Sarah Palin and Joe Biden were as expected on issues, so no need to parse that.
Sarah did a fantastic job; she rocked this debate big time! She spoke directly to voters and really connected with the American people. She was confident and well-prepared, looking straight into the camera when giving her answers.
Joe Biden addressed the moderator when answering, and he looked tired and testy throughout the debate. He had an annoying habit of smirking as Sarah Palin began her answers, which came across as very condescending. He was also seen scratching at his neck and was heard sighing on a few occasions.
In short, Sarah’s detractors lose all credibility if they try to spin this into a win for Biden. Sarah blew Biden away tonight. And he knew it.

Mayor Palin, Barack Obama is a handsome, charismatic demigod. How many boxes of Kleenex will you need after your crushing loss?
Senator Biden, what is your favorite color? And if you have time for a follow-up question: Why?
Mayor, you talk funny and you own a tanning bed. Why haven’t you released Trig’s birth certificate?
Senator, have you seen those pictures of Obama in his swim trunks? If not, I have them right here.
Mayor, what are the names, ages, and blood types of all 71 members of the Belgian Senate? And why are you unwilling to admit that your inability to instantly produce any and every fact I demand makes you unfit to stand in the way of history?
Senator, you’ve spoken at length. Could you please continue?
Mayor, which is your preferred method of stifling dissent, banning books or burning them? Since it’s both, please explain how you can deny the accusation that you’re a fascist, which I am making now.
Senator, could you please sign my book?

So it turns out Gwen Ifill never told the Commission on Presidential Debates about her book Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, which is to be released on Inauguration Day. When she’s asked if her book creates a conflict of interest, Ifill suggests that such concerns might be motivated by racism.
But, as Andy McCarthy demonstrates, Ifill and her colleagues at PBS have been quite concerned about conflicts of interest involving public figures.
