Fox News’ Cameron Interviews Post-Debate Palin

October 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

ST. LOUIS –- Fox News’ Carl Cameron conducted the first post-debate interview with Sarah Palin this morning. The extensive interview went over last night’s Vice-Presidential face off, her debate prep, campaign strategy, media access and the hits she has been getting for not having more access to the media, and of course the much talked about and criticized interview she did with CBS’s Katie Couric.

Watch the video of the interview, and read the rest of the article here.

Sarah Palin changed her image overnight.
by Fred Barnes

The moment when Sarah Palin knew she was winning last night’s debate with her vice presidential opponent Joe Biden came after the subject had turned to nuclear weapons. Palin had talked about nukes as a deterrent and said it was important to keep them out of the hands of dictators who are enemies of America. Then she turned to moderator Gwen Ifill and asked, “Can we talk about Afghanistan real quick?”

Afghanistan? The impression Palin had left in television interviews with ABC’s Charles Gibson and CBS’s Katie Couric was that she was ill-equipped to discuss issues like that. She just didn’t know enough to talk about foreign policy and other weighty matters with even a minimal level of comfort. And this meant she simply wasn’t up to being vice president should John McCain win the presidency.

But by that point in the debate–two-thirds the way through–Palin was brimming with self-confidence. She knew she could handle any issue likely to be thrown at her by Ifill. She knew Biden would not outmatch her. So she purposely tackled an issue on which he was expected to have an advantage.

Don’t Underestimate Palin

Sitting here watching Sarah Palin debate Joe Biden, the words of columnist Kathleen Parker are ringing in my ears: “(Palin) can’t string two sentences together.”

Boy, now that Gov. Palin has finally appeared in the much-hyped vice-presidential debate, I wonder if Kathleen is wishing she could take those words back. The normally reliable conservative writer stunned readers and angered my radio audience when she wrote a scathing column the other day suggesting that Gov. Palin should drop out of the race “for the good of the country.” Parker parroted the mantra of the left by saying that Palin is out of her league and should step aside.

The stakes are high and we need you

October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Dear Supporter,

In the weeks since I joined John McCain as his running mate, the Obama-Biden Democrats have used their allies in the liberal media to paint us negatively, all in an attempt to sway undecided voters. Tonight’s debate gave me the opportunity to bypass the biased media filter and communicate our shared values of reform directly to the voters.

I know millions were watching as I went toe-to-toe against Senator Biden to explain our plans. Reform Republicans will strengthen the economy, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and secure our nation from the threat of Islamic extremism.

As we head into the final month of the campaign, I’m asking you to ensure we have the resources necessary to compete with the Obama-Biden Democrats and their liberal media allies in races across the country. You can help today by giving your financial support right now.

The stakes are extremely high and voters are already casting their ballots for the general election. You may have heard the media reports out of Ohio about same-day registration and voting. The Obama-Biden Democrats and their allies are exploiting loopholes in Ohio election laws that we fear may result in unqualified voters casting ballots. They’re also hoping our voters will be so confused, that they will throw up their hands in frustration and stay at home instead of voting. That’s why it’s important to re-double our efforts.

The Democratic Secretary of State in Ohio even tried to disqualify thousands of Republican absentee ballot applications. She enlisted the help of liberal partisan friends and special interest groups when we challenged this in court. Thankfully, we were successful in taking the case all the way to the Ohio Supreme Court and won the right to reinstate these absentee ballot applications. The Obama-Biden Democrats will likely try this shameful, partisan tactic in other targeted states. They’ll do anything to win this election.

We’re heading into the critical weeks when many undecided voters will make their choice. Our team needs to get our message out to these crucial voters who can tip the scales in our favor. Your generous contribution of $25, $50, $75, $150, $250, $500 or more will help our team reach these voters.

You donation to McCain-Palin Victory 2008 funds our critical get-out-the-vote efforts in states all across the country. These efforts will be critical in defeating the shameful tactics the Obama-Biden Democrats are employing. Will you help get-out-the-vote for our entire team by making a donation right now?

I want to sincerely thank you for your generosity. Anything you can do to help today will go a long way to securing Victory on November 4th.

Sincerely,

Governor Sarah Palin

P.S. The Obama-Biden Democrats will do anything to win. Their allies are already hard at work employing shameful election tactics in Ohio and they won’t stop there. We’re in the final stretch of the campaign and need your immediate financial support to elect our ticket from top to bottom on Election Day. Please join our team for victory today!

Because the McCain-Palin Campaign is participating in the presidential public funding system, it may not receive contributions for any candidate’s election. However, federal law allows the McCain-Palin Campaign’s Compliance Fund to defray legal and accounting compliance costs and preserve the Campaign’s public grant for media, mail, phones, and get-out-the-vote programs. Contributions to McCain-Palin Victory 2008 will go to the Compliance Fund, and to participating party committees for Victory 2008 programs.

Blogosphere reactions to Palin-Biden debate

October 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

Michelle Malkin:

Sarah Palin is the real deal. Five weeks on the campaign trail, thrust onto the national stage, she rocked tonight’s debate.

Atlas Shrugged:

She was herself. And she’s wonderful. Smart, authentic. I dug when she chided that old dinosaur.

I wish she had gone more on the attack more particularly when Biden was blaming Bush/ McCain for the financial meltdown. It was the poisonous fruit of cancerous Democrat government intervention. She missed opportunities to go for the jugular but her performance was exceptional. She seemed perfectly comfortable. She got her shots in.

Bob McCarty:

It took her almost an hour to get there, but Sarah Palin finally reached the point when she, the hockey mom from Wasilla, was able to distinguish herself as vastly different from Joe Biden, the six-term U.S. senator from Delaware.

Power Line:

Ernest Hemingway famously defined courage as grace under pressure. I thought Joe Biden did well for those who might have been unaware of his liberties with the truth. But last night Sarah Palin last night provided a good example of the kind of grace of which Hemingway spoke.

Little Green Footballs:

Sarah Palin was terrific in this debate. Just terrific. No mistakes. Heartfelt, sincere, and very knowledgeable.

Joe Biden came across as old, surgically enhanced, and tired, voice dwindling to a monotone as the debate progressed.

Sarah Palin won the debate going away.

‘You betcha’ she belonged on the stage!

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – I walked in last night expecting a train wreck from our gal of the moment. Instead, I saw fireworks.

Sarah rules.

In her first, and last, vice-presidential debate, Sarah Palin was strong. Articulate. Folksy. And warm.

Joe Biden seemed afraid of hitting a girl.

Palin Has Everything that Counts

October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

by Kyle-Anne Shiver

I must admit to being quite taken aback, last week, by Kathleen Parker’s insistence that Sarah Palin do the Country and her Party the favor of withdrawing from this race.  One is left to only imagine whether Ms. Parker is of the same mind today, or whether she will now be sending this advice to Joe Biden instead.

As for me and my vote, Sarah Palin has everything that counts.  She has had my admiration since day one, and I’ve seen nothing of significance to change my mind.  I read Kaylene Johnson’s biography, Sarah, this week.  It’s the portrait of the hockey mom, “who turned Alaska’s political establishment upside down,”  a woman who has produced some rather extraordinary accomplishments for her family, her town and her state, in that order, taking one thing at a time.  According to those who know Sarah best, she has done it not so much with extraordinary talent as with personal drive and hard work.

Joe Biden was no match for “Joe Six-Pack.”

by Peggy Noonan

She killed. She had him at “Nice to meet you. Hey, can I call you Joe?” She was the star. He was the second male lead, the good-natured best friend of the leading man. She was not petrified but peppy.

[Declarations]

The whole debate was about Sarah Palin. She is not a person of thought but of action. Interviews are about thinking, about reflecting, marshaling data and integrating it into an answer. Debates are more active, more propelled—they are thrust and parry. They are for campaigners. She is a campaigner. Her syntax did not hold, but her magnetism did. At one point she literally winked at the nation.

As far as Mrs. Palin was concerned, Gwen Ifill was not there, and Joe Biden was not there. Sarah and the camera were there. This was classic “talk over the heads of the media straight to the people,” and it is a long time since I’ve seen it done so well, though so transparently. There were moments when she seemed to be doing an infomercial pitch for charm in politics. But it was an effective infomercial.

Young, Vibrant Governor Palin KOs Old School Washington Liberal!

October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

By John Lillpop, Canadian Free Press

Proving beyond any shadow of a doubt that she is the most qualified candidate for the presidency, including Messrs. McCain and Obama, VP nominee Governor Sarah Palin scored an impressive victory over her weak opponent in the debate held Thursday evening.

Despite being handicapped by Gwen Ifill, an Obama operative and biased liberal from PBS, Governor Palin demonstrated in-depth understanding and mastery of a wide range of topics from national security to economic priorities, and in doing so established her superior qualifications.

Governor Palin’s performance was a moral victory for all women and proves that women are qualified to serve in the very highest capacities of government, despite the dismal showing of Nancy Pelosi in the U.S. House.
