PHILADELPHIA – Sarah Palin’s next faceoff will come at center ice at an NHL arena, not at a debate. The GOP vice presidential nominee will drop the ceremonial first puck when the Philadelphia Flyers open the regular season against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Palin, the Alaska governor and self-described “hockey mom,” will join the winner of a team promotion for the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” to drop the puck.

To the Editor:
I must object to Naomi Spector’s assertion that Sarah Palin challenges the foundational values of Brandeis University (“Palin lambasts Brandeis core ethos,” Sept. 16 issue). Most puzzling to me is the author’s belief that we should fault Palin for “injecting ideology” into a political race. Spector seems to argue that our politicians best support democracy by taking neutral positions on issues-or rather, by ignoring important matters such as abortion, gun control and religion when they aggravate our left-leaning sensibilities. It is of little surprise that Spector’s discussion of Brandeis principles makes no mention of the school’s motto, which apparently needs revision. I expect she’ll favor my suggestion for a replacement: “Truth-only to the extent that it isn’t offensive.”

My favorite word has become “idiot,” as in, “he or she is an idiot.”
That is my opinion of columnist Kathleen Parker’s column calling for Governor Palin’s resignation as candidate for the vice-presidency. I’m wondering what Parker’s ulterior motive can be. Is it because the “media” is in the tank for Obama, and they will denigrate Sarah Palin in any way they can, because they fear her?
In reading letters to the editor in this paper from women belittling Sarah Palin, I believe that most of those women have a severe case of jealousy or bigotry. Women can sometimes be their own worst enemy.
I once read a pundit’s comment on the famous dancing team of several decades ago, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, commenting that she could do whatever Fred did, and she did it backwards and in high heels.
That says it all.

I have objections to Ms. Phyllis Pike of Gadsden (Letter to the Editor, Sept. 29) and her erroneous, politically biased and prejudiced blanket statements about Republicans.
This female forgot that when you point a finger at someone else, you have three fingers pointing right back at you. I would invite her to look at herself in a mirror and look into her own soul and mind and do some thinking and examine facts on her own. Do not swallow, hook-line-sinker all that the DNC liberals pour out to their kool-aid drinkers. Think for yourself. Think, think, think!
Ms. Pike claims that Sarah Palin is “the biggest phony” she has ever seen. That is weird because everyone knows who Palin is, what she is and what she stands for. On the other hand, did Ms. Pike and other liberal socialists ever find out who Barack Hussain Obama is, what he is and what he stands for? We all know most of the things Obama is against: (1) America (review his “pals”, the Rev. Wright, Ayers and wife, many radical community organizations — re: ACORN, (2) helping average, working voters by hiking our tax burdens and financial problems.
