Sarah Palin will be Oprah Winfrey’s guest on November 16, to help launch her book Going Rogue: An American Life.

While the vaunted “Oprah Effect” on books — which turned obscure titles into bestsellers overnight — peaked years ago, this tv appearance is notable because Oprah (a long time Obama supporter) didn’t have Palin on her show during the 2008 election.

The editorial of the Full Comment section in the National Post seems to infer what millions assumed about Sarah Palin before: that she’s done, through, washed up, and yet still stands in the spotlight as the hook draws ever nearer. I don’t blame them. She’s been doubted before, and yet she continues to steam ahead oblivious to cries of her inexperience and suggestions that she’s a “blithering idiot”:

There are a lot of conservatives who don’t like Sarah Palin, and they’re probably quite right to do so. It’s true that her popularity is not derived from her wit, intelligence, or cerebral prowess in general. In fact, that’s what makes her so alluring to millions of Americans, and a fair share of Canadians, in the first place. She isn’t another summa cum laude graduate from Princeton like Sonia Sotomayor. She doesn’t strike anyone as an academic, or even draw upon her education during interviews with the media in order to impress upon people her knowledge and insights. And that again appeals to the  ordinary people throughout the United States who embrace her.

Admit it: Sarah Palin seems pretty prescient when it comes to David Letterman’s creepy talk about sex.

Palin excoriated Letterman last June after Letterman joked that one of Palin’s daughters had been “knocked up” by New York Yankee player Alex Rodriguez.

At the time, Palin said of Letterman:

I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country for contributing to kind of that thread that is throughout our culture that makes it sound like it is OK to talk about young girls in that way, where it’s kind of OK, accepted and funny to talk about statutory rape. It’s not cool. It’s not funny.

Now comes news that the married Letterman, who is 62, has been having sex with female office staffers at his late-night show.

NEW YORK- That was fast.

Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, has finished her memoir just four months after the book deal was announced, and the release date has been moved up from the spring to Nov. 17, her publisher said.

“Governor Palin has been unbelievably conscientious and hands-on at every stage, investing herself deeply and passionately in this project,” said Jonathan Burnham, publisher of Harper. “It’s her words, her life, and it’s all there in full and fascinating detail.”

Palin’s book, her first, will be 400 pages, said Burnham, who called the fall “the best possible time for a major book of this kind.”

The book now has a title, one fitting for a public figure known for the unexpected — “Going Rogue: An American Life.”

An Alabama woman won dinner with Sarah Palin in an eBay auction Friday night for $63,500.

Cathy Maples of Huntsville can invite four guests to break bread with the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, and her hubby, Todd.

Proceeds will go to Ride 2 Recovery, which supports wounded veterans through cycling programs. Palin’s oldest son, Track, was deployed to Iraq in September 2008.

“She is, quite simply, one of the most talked-about people in the U.S.,” the auction blurb brags.

“Value: Priceless.”

It has been eight years since the United States suffered the worst attack on our soil since Pearl Harbor. As we look back, we should take stock of what has transpired since then. We have sent our nation’s soldiers into battlefields far from home to defend us. These brave men and women live in treacherous conditions, facing improvised roadside bombs, suicide bombers and other attacks. Yet they fight on in their mission to defend the United States and all of us without complaint.

Our all-volunteer service is made up of Americans of all races, creeds, and economic backgrounds. These soldiers are on the front lines of this battle, and there are others in the fight as well. We must continue to give our utmost support to the United States military and those that support their efforts. In light of this, I have added my name to a letter sent to President Obama urging him to remain committed to prosecuting the War on Terror in Afghanistan. Never have so few defended the liberty of so many. We must continue to support their mission because they will continue to fight for us.

President Reagan ended his first inaugural with this story:

I thank all our servicemen and women, in and out of uniform, for keeping us safe over the last eight years in the face of enormous odds.

Please thank a veteran today. They certainly do not look for those thanks, but they have more than earned it.

I’m pleased that the White House is finally responding to Republican health care ideas instead of pretending they don’t exist.[1] But in doing so President Obama should follow his own sound advice and avoid making “wild misrepresentations”.[2] Medicare vouchers would give everyone on Medicare the chance to decide for themselves which health plan to use, rather than leave that decision to government bureaucrats. Such proposals are the kind of health care reform that Republicans stand for: market-oriented, patient-centered, and result-driven.

The White House talking points leave the rest of my arguments unanswered. They don’t respond to the idea that all individuals should get the same tax benefits received by those who get coverage through their employers; that we must reform our tort laws; and that we should allow Americans to buy insurance across state lines. The White House also fails to respond to the Nyce/Schieber study indicating that wages will fall if the government expands coverage without reducing health care inflation rates.

One last thing: after President Obama’s speech tonight, listen for which pundits use the words “false”, “scary”, and “risky” in describing the proposals I put forward. That’s how you’ll be able to tell who the White House counted as “allies” worthy of receiving its talking points.

Former Governor Sarah Palin created quite a firestorm last month when she issued a statement concerning “death panels” hidden inside pending healthcare legislation.

As a result, she was asked to participate in the New York State Senate Aging Committee’s hearing regarding H.R. 3200, America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.

On Tuesday, she sent her written testimony to Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz, the chairman of the committee.

Given how her last opinion on this matter was treated by Obama-loving media, it’s going to be fascinating to see how this gets covered in the next 24 hours, especially with the President about to give an address to both Chambers of Congress…
